Mission Statement
Brookfield Central Girls Basketball Club, BCGBC, is a not-for-profit organization. Our purpose is to provide education, training, and organized sporting events in the areas of basketball, sportsmanship, citizenship, and personal development to the girls of the Elmbrook School District that will attend Brookfield Central High School. Please click here for some frequently asked questions about the club.

DESCRIPTION
The Brookfield Central Girls Basketball Club is a “select” club; that is, players are selected to teams after a series of tryouts each year. All players in the Elmbrook School District attending grades 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 (based on the current school year) are welcome to tryout for BCGBC. Usually, 10 players per team are selected after the series of tryouts.

MISSION
The mission of the club is:
  • To promote and develop basketball players for the Brookfield Central High School girl’s program
  • To focus on the development of fundamental basketball skills
  • To provide a positive learning and growth experience in a competitive environment for members of the club
  • To proudly represent Brookfield Central and the Brookfield Central Jr. Lancer Girls Basketball Club
  • To encourage sportsmanship and teamwork while providing a fun and positive experience for the member of the club

Operational Statement

CALENDAR
The Brookfield Central Girls Basketball Club conducts tryouts in the fall.  Players are selected and placed onto teams at that time.  Practice is usually scheduled twice during the week.  Tournaments are generally played on weekends. The regular season for the Club ends mid-March. Teams reconvene in early June and play in a summer league, one evening per week. No practices or tournaments are planned in the summer but there are optional trainings or opportunities for girls to play.

TRYOUTS
Tryouts are conducted in the fall by grade level. Players must be registered before participating. Players are given a number which is worn on their back during the tryouts for identification by our coaches and evaluators. Players, identified by the number on their back, are rated during a series of drills and game situations.  During these drills and games, players are graded on their work ethic, coach-ability, listening, communication on the court with other players, offensive skills, defensive skills, competitiveness (effort), and other traits identified by our coaching staff and evaluators. After the tryouts, all report cards are compiled by the Director. Players receiving the highest scores are selected to play with BCGBC.

REGISTRATION/FEES
A parent/guardian must complete a waiver of liability and pay fees before a player is allowed to practice. Included on the registration form is a request for information about the player’s health insurance along with  the new state mandatory concussion information. Players must agree and sign a Player Code of Conduct prior to practicing with their team. At the team registration meeting, which usually happens a few nights after the last tryout, fees are due and players will be measured for their uniforms.

PRACTICES
Practices will be determined by late September. Usually, a team will practice twice per week, approximately 1 ½ hours each practice. The coach may schedule voluntary, “extra” practices.  Although every attempt is made to schedule two practices each week, due to gym availability, this may not occur.  If a player cannot attend practice for any reason, she must contact the coach before the practice. Playing time will be effected if practices are missed.

PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT
Parents are a part of the team and important role models.
  • Appreciate your child’s efforts; children should know that win or lose you love them.
  • Be honest to yourself about your child’s athletic capacity, competitive attitude, sportsmanship and actual skill level.
  • Do not shout advice during the game; talk to your child after the game and when they are ready.
  • Do not harass or criticize the referee, the other team, or other players.
  • Don’t compare the skill, courage, or attitudes of your children with other members of the team.
  • Do not discuss game situations with the coach immediately after a game, wait 24 hours in order to insure a better interaction.
  • Get to know the coach so that you can understand his/her philosophy, attitudes, ethics, and leadership style.
  • Support the coach and his assistants with the things they are trying to accomplish.
  • Parents have a responsibility to provide feedback via an annual survey.

COMMUNICATION
The club operates a website: http://www.bcjrlancergirlsclub.com, where important information about the club is posted including practice schedules, tournament promotions, and special announcements.

GAMES & TOURNAMENTS
Coaches are provided league schedules as soon as they become available.  Coaches will also select tournaments to participate in.  The coach will communicate this schedule to his/her team, normally through the team manager.  The teams play two league games and tournaments on the weekends. A team may play up to three or four games per on a weekend tournament.  The club works to reduce league game conflicts with tournaments when preparing the year’s schedule in September. If a conflict occurs during the season, the coach has the authority and responsibility to make necessary arrangements to eliminate the conflict. Note: Tournaments are conducted in many areas of Southeastern & Central Wisconsin as well as Northern Illinois.

UNIFORMS
In addition to the player’s registration fee, the player needs to purchase a uniform (Reversible Jersey and Short). Uniform sizes are available at team registration.  A uniform should last at least two seasons.

PLAYING TIME
The Brookfield Central Girls Basketball Club has established playing time guidelines. The coach has the discretion to adjust this for circumstances such as practice attendance, attitude, disciplinary, etc.

FEES
Brookfield Central Girls Basketball Club requires each participant to pay a fee. The fee is due at Registration Night meeting.  A player will not receive a new uniform nor be allowed to practice or play in a game without receipt of this fee. This fee covers: gym rentals, league fee, tournaments fees, equipment purchase, and club administration costs.
